Human Rights Law
What are your human rights?
Employees across Canada are protected against discrimination in the workplace. This protection is meant to ensure equal treatment for all employees despite differences in race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, age, record of offences, marital status, same sex partnership status, family status or handicap.
What are your options?
If you believe your human rights at work have been violated and that you have been subjected to discriminatory treatment, you may want to take legal action. Human rights law can be complex and so before doing this you will need to obtain legal advice. Our lawyers will work to assist you in understanding your rights and then enforcing them, defending those subjected to human rights violations and prosecuting those who violate them.
All of our lawyers specialize in the field of Human Rights and Workplace Discrimination and can provide representation and advice with respect to the following issues:
- applying for a job;
- recruitment;
- training;
- transfers;
- promotions;
- terms of apprenticeship;
- dismissals;
- layoffs and terminations;
- rate of pay;
- codes of conduct;
- overtime;
- hours of work;
- holidays;
- benefits;
- shift work;
